The great artist Pablo Picasso is famous for how he pushed the boundaries of what art was expected to look like. The paintings and collages from his "cube period" were revolutionary to the art world by challenging expectations and pushing the limits on what men had defined as "normal". Picasso is quoted as saying, "I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them."
I believe this is the real beauty of true art. Creativity isn't an accident. It's not a work of chance, chaos or randomness. Art is a purposeful outward manifestation of invisible dreams, ideas and emotions.
I believe God is an artist. From sunsets, galaxies and mountain ranges; to jellyfish, snowflakes and sound waves, we can percieve the intellect and beauty of the Designer, by gazing at His creation. Just as an artist can take a common tube of paint, or a simple cube of clay and transform it, so also does God take human beings and make their lives beautiful.
The takeaway lesson today is this; art has two limiting factors - the medium (clay, paint, etc), and the mind. The clay and the imagination. If the mind can imagine it, but the physical properties of the clay prevent it, the mind of the artist will remain hidden. In the same way, God (Whose thoughts and ideas are without limits) has you on His mind...
Psalm 8:3-4a "When I consider the heavens, the work of thy fingers, which thou has ordained; What is man, that you are mindful of him?..."
Let me put that in my words, "When I consider the limitless power and gloy of God expressed in the limitless beauty of the universe, I'm blown away to consider that God has chosen to fill His Mind with us".
The Lord is the Master Artist. He wants to create a life in you according to His thoughts, not your failures. It's time to stop focusing upon the limits of the clay, and allow ourselves to trust in a God whose mind has no limits regarding your life.
Jesus is the Art of Life!
